Dragging Beatrice down into hell, and having it be because she lost faith
with Dante, is in a way one of the biggest slaps in the face of this game.
Beatrice was the epitome of purity, and the game in a way defiled her--and if
nothing else, Dante's image of her--by having her taken to Hell in the way she
was. They took away her saintliness (whether it was real or imagined by Dante
for his own poetic reasons I leave to y'all; Dante himself referred to her as
"the glorious lady of my mind") and the things that made her special to the real
Dante, all for the sake of creating a MacGuffin--game!Dante needed a reason to
fight his way through Hell, and hey, Beatrice is the woman Dante loved (...will
refrain from going off on just what "courtly love" is and why EA is failing so
hard at groking that "courtly love" and "love" as we see it are not the same
thing), so she'll do! Drag her down into Hell! And make it so she chose to
go!
