serious issues with pretty much everything having to do with EA's "Dante's Inferno."

http://community.livejournal.com/intelligamers/11739.html

I have serious issues with pretty much everything having to do with EA's "Dante's Inferno." And for the sake of my sanity, I'm going to refer to the game as "DI" and the actually poem as Dante's Inferno or The Inferno, for the sake of cutting down on confusion and because it almost physically pains me to attach Dante to EA's travesty.

There's a lot about DI I hate that I could write a tome about, including its marketing, but this post is very specifically about the imagery of women in the game, focusing on Beatrice (and oh, man, I'm seriously wishing I had my notes from college from the class on Dante I took--part of my hate of this game stems from the fact that I love The Divine Comedy, and EA has turned it into a pathetic God of War clone) and all the things they've done so wrong with her.

jonathan knight and ea should be banned from both the videogames industry and culture in general.

More Jonathan Knight EA FAIL: "We talked about the absurdity of Dante's Inferno becoming a game"

http://www.craveonline.com/gaming/article/three-literary-epics-that-deserve-game-remakes-94737

We talked about the absurdity of Dante's Inferno becoming a game and then earning a new cover because of said game during last week's Next Gen News (check that, by the way). Then, Penny Arcade went ahead and took it to a whole new level with their comic featuring the most epic cover of Moby Dick I've ever seen.

Former EA Exec Predicts Dante's Inferno Game Will Epic #EAFAIL!

http://www.guardian.co.uk/technology/gamesblog/2010/jan/14/games-controversy

"But by far the greatest failure of Riccitiello's strategy has been the EA Games
division. JR bet his tenure on EA's ability to "grow their way through the
transition" to digital/online with hit packaged goods titles. They honestly
believed that they had a decade to make this transition (I think it's more like
2-3 years). Since the recurring-revenue sports titles were already "booked"
(i.e., fully accounted for in the Wall Street estimates) it fell to EA Games to
make hits that could move the needle. It's been a very ugly scene, indeed. From
Spore, to Dead Space, to Mirror's Edge, to Need for Speed: Undercover, it's been
one expensive commercial disappointment for EA Games after another. Not to
mention the shut-down of Pandemic, half of the justification for EA's $850MM
acquisition of Bioware-Pandemic. And don't think that Dante's Inferno, or
Knights of the Old Republic, is going to make it all better. It's a bankrupt
strategy."

Fans Call Bullshit on EA's Jonathan Knight's Bastardization of Dante's Inferno

@TheOrgangeFellow: I don't see him calling anyone pretentious. But maybe I'm
misunderstanding you. ---------------------------- I call bullshit on this story
though. I read The Inferno a long time ago, and this guy presumes to tell me
that I'm over the moon with this game? Fuck you. That's like me saying true
Final Fantasy fans love FF7 because it's the greatest. That's ridiculous!
Granted I'm not one of the people that is pitching a bitch, I just saw an
Inferno game going in a different direction.

For someone with a degree an English and Creative Writing degree, the soul existence of this game makes my head feel like it is going to explode. I digress, though. If Doobles is right, and it will serve as a tool to introduce people to The Divine Comedy, then ok. I still think it looks more like a bastardization of the original material than an honest adaptation; especially the Lust level. I really hope Dante comes back from the dead and wreaks havoc on the Visceral Games office.

EA's Lead "Ridiculous" Fanboy Jonathan Knight is Killing Dante's Inferno

http://www.comicsalliance.com/2010/01/16/dantes-inferno-rebranded-as-video-game-novelization/

Since adapting "Dante's Inferno" into a video game, and then adapting that video game into a comic book wasn't ridiculous
enough, EA will be releasing a new "novelization" in bookstores next week. While
that initially sounded like they'd commissioned an original work of fiction
based on the first cantica of Dante Alighieri's 14th century epic poem "The
Divine Comedy," that's not exactly it, although it's just as nuts.

They're actually just republishing Henry Wadsworth Longfellow's existing
translation, but completely rebranding it as a video game tie-in, complete with
cover art featuring a "300"-esque warrior and a giant scythe that's like 8-feet
tall and straight out of "Final Fantasy." Basically, if there were a commercial
for this book, it would have a nu-metal soundtrack, and this (actual) back cover
copy would be read by the guy who does spooky voiceovers for movie
trailers:

The Fanboyz are Killing Dante's Inferno!!!

Kohler says: This reminds me of something I saw at a bookstore the other
day. Indeed, the top result on Amazon for Wuthering Heights is this
ambitious bit of marketing
that disguises it as an entry in the Twilight
series. In other words, you’re right, Gus; this is an old trick, but it’s hard
to argue against stealth culture bombing.
